Welcome to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Cumbernauld
The Fifth Sunday of Lent (Year C) leads us deeper into the themes of mercy and transformation. The Gospel reading from John 8:1-11 tells the powerful story of the woman caught in adultery. The scribes and Pharisees bring her to Jesus, hoping to trap Him, but instead He responds with profound compassion: “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.” One by one, her accusers leave, and Jesus offers her mercy rather than condemnation, saying, “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”
This moment reminds us that Jesus does not define us by our past, but invites us to live in newness of life. As Lent draws to a close, we are called to let go of shame, receive God’s forgiveness, and prepare our hearts for the new life that Easter brings. The purple of Lent continues to symbolize penance, but within it, we now glimpse the hope of redemption.

We, the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Cumbernauld, following the example of our Patron and Protector, believe that each member is called to ownership, discipleship, and evangelisation to our parish and local community.
The parish is a community of God’s people centered on the word of God and the Eucharist:
where all seek to be loving and caring, welcoming, forgiving, serving and healing;
where the poor can go for help, the lonely for company and the sorrowing for comfort;
where, with obedience to our own faith and respect for other faiths, we seek unity with all;
where, in a spirit of mission, we aim to promote God’s glory throughout the world;
where there is a passion for justice and peace;
where, as stewards of creation, we care and protect the environment locally and globally; and,
where Christ is the way and the truth and the life.
We do all of this as members of the Catholic community within the
Archdiocese of Glasgow and the universal Church.
